MISS ROSE & HER RHYTHM PERCOLATORS Enjoy a special evening of vintage jazz, swing dancing, 20's-30's inspired cocktails, and be transported back in time to the earliest days of the Jazz Age with Miss Rose & Her Rhythm Percolators.
The Percolators are a Seattle-based quartet that faithfully recreates the vintage jazz of the early 1920s to the mid '30s -- the era when this original American music provided a playful soundtrack for the flappers who danced the Charleston and sipped illicit booze in the glitzy underworld of the speakeasy. Miss Rose & Her Rhythm Percolators play well-known popular tunes that have since become part of the great American songbook and dust off forgotten gems from the early jazz era.
Dressed in period costumes, Singer Sunga Rose croons and strums a ukulele while the Percolators -- Holly Eckert (piano/violin), Mark Bentz (cornet/percussion) and Ericka Kendall (upright bass) -- keep time and knock out solos. Miss Rose & Her Rhythm Percolators revive for modern times a wonderful sound from a bygone era.
TICKETS: $15/advance available on BrownPaperTickets.com and at Daily Business, $18 at the door. Light refreshments, cocktails and beverages available for purchase. Doors open at 6:30pm. All proceeds benefit DANCE Residencies in local schools for the 2010-11 School Year! --

Love Letters, 9/16-17 Veteran television and film stars Ellen Travolta and Jack Bannon are coming to Twisp for a benefit performance of A.R. Gurney's Love Letters to raise money for The Merc Playhouse. Travolta is the oldest of the six Travolta children, and has appeared in numerous films including Grease and Lonely Hearts with her brother, John. Her television credits include Welcome Back Kotter, Happy Days, Joanie loves Chachi and Charles in Charge. Bannon is best known for his role of Donovan on the television show, Lou Grant, and has appeared in numerous series including Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Murder She Wrote, Designing Women, Magyver, St. Elsewhere, and Charlie's Angels. Methow Valley residents may remember Bannon from his role in Visiting Mr. Green at The Merc Playhouse in 2007.
A.R. Gurney's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play, Love Letters, is told through the reading of letters chronicling a lifelong romance and friendship. The play centers on just two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. They sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards - in which over nearly 50 years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats - that have passed between them throughout their separated lives.
Tickets are $25 per person and include a dessert buffet. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets available online, at Trail's End Bookstore, Winthrop or at Daily Business, Twisp.
